Hailing from Vale, Ruby had quite the interesting childhood when it came to her studies. When she had about two years remaining at Signal Academy, she was given the opportunity to attend her dream school, Beacon Academy, by the invitation of Professor Ozpin himself after her heroic attempt to apprehend Roman Torchwick. While she was the youngest student at Beacon, Ruby still managed to make friends along the way, even ending up as the leader of Team RWBY.

Ruby faced many challenges during her studies at Beacon, but she had not been prepared for what was to come. During the Vytal Festival, Salem's forces struck and contributed to what had been dubbed as "The Fall of Beacon." During the attack, Ruby lost two of her friends, to which the loss of Pyrrha Nikos awakened the dormant power of her Silver eyes.

After the fall, Ruby set off on a mission with the remaining members of Team JNPR to rally the other schools and find the relics to stop Salem. In Haven, Ruby and her friends were eventually reunited with Yang and Weiss, but during the fight at Haven Academy to secure the Relic of Knowledge, Ruby was happy to see Blake was back with the team when Adam and the remnants of the White Fang were captured.

With Haven being a partial success, Ruby and her crew began making their way to Atlas in a stolen Atlas aircraft. However, their entry to the kingdom was not as warm and welcome as hoped when she and the others were taken into custody by the Ace Ops of the Atlesian military. With a pardon from General Ironwood in regards to the stolen aircraft, Ruby and her friends trained alongside the Ace Ops and were given their official huntsman and huntress licenses. When she and her friends decided to reveal the truth about Salem to Ironwood, she figured that it would be in their best interests to use the Staff of Creation to save Atlas as General Ironwood's actions were rather drastic. During their attempts to evacuate all of Atlas to Vacuo with the aid of the staff, Team RWBY and Jaune were fighting to allow everyone else to make it to safety until each of them fell one by one into the void, including Neopolitan while fighting Ruby.

After falling into the void, Ruby woke up on a beach within the Everafter, the same place depicted in a childhood titled "The Girl Who Fell Through The World." Eventually, she was able to reunite with her team and slowly began to make her way through the confusing landscape. After her experience with the Red Prince, Ruby helped her friends make the parfait that returned them to their normal size while Jaune came in and helped defend them under the guise of "The Rusted Knight." While staying in the village of the Paper Pleasers, the dam eventually burst and washed away the village, which caused Ruby to snap at everyone before she ran off once Jaune yelled at her. On her own, Ruby eventually stumbled upon a recreation of the Vanille manor where she encountered Neo and her illusions, to which each illusion was of someone she had lost during her time as a student and huntress. However, when she was given the option to drink some tea infused with a leaf from the great tree at the center of the Everafter, Ruby hesitated for a moment before she drank it in front of her friends and went on a journey of self discovery. When her friends had arrived at the tree, they saw a wooden casing of her there before fighting the Curious Cat inhabiting Neo's body. Just when her team thought they were beat, Ruby emerged from her wooden cocoon, she knew exactly who she needed to be and helped save her friends and return to Remnant when they needed them the most.
